After admitting defeat and accepting that I was only going to get 1 pair of socks finished for the Knitting Olympics, I pulled off an eleventh hour miracle and actually achieved my goal of finishing 2 pair of patterned knitted socks.
I knit one toddler sock last night and finished the other up this afternoon. I realised last night that I never said that the socks had to fit me and that I could still achieve my goal if I made a wee pair o' socks.
Toddler Socks
Pattern: stitch pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch
Yarn: Unknown yarn. I think it might be Mountain Colors Weaver's Wool but there was no label and I got it from a friend who didn't know either.
Needle Size : Clover Bamboo US 3's
Started/Finished :February 25/February 26th
Adorable wee socks. They are going to go in a basket I have reserved for gifts. There's an error in the written directions for this pattern in the book. It's supposed to be a basket weave but it didn't turn out that way. I'll have to email the publishers and let them know.
Grey Socks
Pattern : Another stitch pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch
Yarn : Regia Stretch in a lovely grey
Needle Size : Addi Turbo US 1's
Started/Finished: February 10/February 25
I probably worked on these socks for 6-8 nights during the Olympics plus a Sunday or two and whenever else I could get in a couple of rounds. If I weren't so busy, I definitely could have made 2 regular size pair in the 16 days. They went very quickly and the pattern was easily memorized.
I also took a break from socks last weekend and knit up this quick little ponchette to wear at a local knitting fair that I worked at over this past weekend :
Bonnie (the one in the middle) designed this quick little capelet and then everyone else had to have one once she made hers because it was so cute. It's very warm and it keeps your arms free to move around which is nice.
Pattern : Exclusive from Bonnie Knits with purchase of yarn
Yarn : 2 skeins of Iro
Needles : Addi Turbp 20" US 13
Started/Finished : February 18/February 19
So there you have it, I managed to finish 3 things for the Knitting Olympics.
